Richard Trick

Richard Trick was a member of Company E, 30thMI Infantry.  He died on October 29, 1865 and is buried in Franklin Cemetery, Southfield Twp., MI.

His gravestone reads “Lived 19 years 1 month 14 days”.  His name is listed on the Franklin Veteran’s Monument and in the list of Southfield veterans compiled by the MI Civil War Centennial Observance Committee, Grave Registration.

Research reveals no other biographical information for this soldier – not even a service record.  This mystery served as the inspiration for the novel Tansy Bitters, Tansy Sweet by Franklin author David Lee Roberts.  The story weaves the fictional lives of the characters into the events of the war and the life of the Village during the Civil War.
