(1846 – 1864)
George Van Every joined Company U of the 5th MI Infantry on February 11, 1864 at age 18 as a private. 8 weeks later he died of disease in winter quarters at Brandy Station, VA.
George was born in 1846 or 1847 in Franklin Village, Southfield Twp. MI, the youngest of 5 children, to Peter (1813-1889) and Roseanna Tadaroot (1811-1863) Van Every. The Van Everys ran a mill in Franklin Village which was operating in 2011. One of George’s older brothers, Joseph, also served as a private in the war.
It is likely that George Van Every was buried as an unknown soldier at one of the cemeteries administered by Culpepper National Cemetery in Virginia.
