George H Wood
(1846 – 1912)
George H. Wood was born in July 1866 in Michigan. He enlisted on August 19, 1864 at age 18 in the 4thReorganized Infantry, Company U
(Unassigned) in Farmington, MI. Nineteen days later he was reassigned to the 3rd MI Infantry, Company G. He survived the war and was mustered out on May 25, 1866 in Victoria, TX.
In 1869 George and his wife Amelia B (1849-1904) married and had 5 children: Ned C. (1882), Harrie (b.1873), John E (b.1876), Irine (Irean A.) (b.1879), Grace (1880-1900), Omer (Homer M.) (b.1888). George was a farm laborer living in Farmington, MI when he enlisted. After his marriage he continued to work in the same profession. He and Amelia lived in Bloomfield Twp. in 1870, Novi Twp. in 1880, and George reported his residence as Southfield Twp. on the 1890 Census Veteran’s Schedule. By 1900 George and Amelia had bought 80 acres in Nottawa Twp., Isabella County, MI near their son John E. Wood and were living there with their youngest child, Homer. After Amelia passed away in 1904 George, Homer and Irean went to live with the John E. Wood family on their farm in nearby Isabella Twp., Isabella County, MI.
George H. Wood died in 1912 and was laid to rest near his wife Amelia and children Grace and Ned in the Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, MI.
